Will a plasma (LCD TV) work with Basic cable connection? - tv deals works but with some nuisances

I) a basic cable ($ 13 per month. I have a lot in an LCD TV. Will this really work with my cable connection? Or should I) upgrade to digital cable ($ 60 per month? Or worse yet, should I upgrade to HD programming?

I do not want to spend $ 70-80 per month for the idiot box. However, it is good, shows a large flat-screen TV for viewing, I have chosen very carefully.
